Nestled into a residential area just on the edge of central Richmond, Townline Homes is offering a taste of serenity with its Harmony condo development.

The planned tower at 8288 Granville Ave. may be 19-storeys tall, but unlike most highrises this project incorporates carefully balanced design principles thanks to feng shui master Sherman Tai — hoping to offer its residents a sense of peace in the heart of a bustling city.

The plan also boasts a trellised zen garden, “soothing” water features, and a 15,000-square-foot “oasis” of rooftop green space, plus a playground and barbecue area.

“It really adds to the tranquility,” marketing manager Courtney Osinchuk told 24 hours. “The location is the number one thing, and the balance it brings to residents.”

The architects enshrined those principles by rotating the building's axis eight degrees, so each suite has a view of mountains, water or the cityscape.

“That's a big feature for a lot of people,” Osinchuk explains. “If you look down at the top of the building, it looks like a pin wheel that has a yin-yang symbol. The whole idea is balance.”

Harmony, which has moved its planned completion several months earlier to summer 2015, is offering 119 units based on an open-concept layout, with suites ranging from 525 to 925 square feet, and a mix of one bedrooms with a workstation up to two bedrooms plus den. Those units offer full-sized stainless steel appliances, longer-than-normal kitchen plans and bathtubs, and 1.25-inch quartz countertops.

But its location close to schools, shopping, Richmond-Brighouse Canada Line station as well as three parks — Garden City, Minoru and Brighouse — ensures buyers can enjoy both the promised tranquility while still enjoying the urban life.
