West Kelowna fire 20% contained
A wildfire threatening hundreds of homes near Kelowna is 20 per cent contained, according to the Wildfire Management Branch.
The Smith Creek fire began Thursday afternoon and quickly grew to 400 hectares, sparking the evacuation of more than 1,100 homes in the area.
About 2,500 people have been displaced due to the evacuation order.
According to the branch, 75 firefighters are attacking the blaze with the help of two helicopters and seven air tankers.
