Penguins name Mark Recchi player development coach

The Pittsburgh Penguins hired former NHL forward Mark Recchi on Friday as a player development coach.
Recchi spent a portion of his playing career with the Penguins. He worked with the team’s youth hockey program for the past two years and as a senior adviser for the Dallas Stars since retiring after the 2011 season.
The 46-year-old Recchi will be charged with developing prospects in the Penguins’ organization.
Drafted by the Penguins in 1988, Recchi was dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers in 1992 and returned to the Penguins in July 2004. He then was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes and came back to Pittsburgh for a third time in 2006.
He wound up playing for seven different teams and on three Stanley Cup winners with the Penguins in 1991, the Hurricanes in 2006 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.
Recchi’s 577 career goals rank 19th in NHL history and his 1,533 points are 12th all time.
