Vancouver kicks off Pride Week 0

Pride week was officially launched in the City of Vancouver Monday with the raising of a rainbow flag on the north lawn of City Hall during the proclamation of the week-long events.

During the rest of the week, plenty of activities abound starting with the Trans Film Night at the Rio Theatre tonight (Tuesday).

The evening will include a collection of short films based around the trans and gender-variant community.

Friday night ushers in the Davie Street Block Party starting at 4 p.m. A dance floor at the rainbow intersection on Bute Street will turn into a temporary dance floor for the ceremony as vendors and carnival games take place nearby. The Pride run is on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in Stanley Park.

The Vancouver Dyke March and festival is Saturday at McSpadden Park at 12 p.m.

Pride week wraps up with the annual parade starting at 12:30 p.m. in downtown Vancouver and more than 650,000 people are expected.
