A discount fashion website co-founded by Vancouverite Adele Tetangco allows shoppers to name their own price for sale rack items. Garmentory is based on the concept of shopping local and supporting independent boutiques, including Vancouver favourites like Charlie + Lee, Violet and One of a Few.

There are currently 70 boutiques from across North America participating in the project.

“The response in Vancouver has been overwhelming,” said Tetangco. “People here love supporting their local boutiques.”

Over 30% of Garmentory customers are from Metro Vancouver.

Tetangco said one of the draws for Vancouverites is the ability to shop for all seasons — buying a warm raincoat in July, for example. Thanks to the city’s mild climate, “We get to enjoy the transitions a little longer. It gives us room for more variety in our wardrobes.”

Fashion fiends are drawn to the idea of Garmentory for two reasons, getting deep discounts — up to 70% off — and having their money go directly to small businesses. In the impersonal world of online shopping, the “make-an-offer” twist adds an element of community and connection.
