A Burnaby man has been charged with one count of robbery and one count of assault causing bodily harm after a 41-year-old Vancouver woman was allegedly assaulted during an attempted carjacking.

On Monday, police received a report that a man had jumped through an open passenger window and attempted to grab the keys from the ignition of a woman’s vehicle, which stopped for a red light on Main Street at East Broadway. After the woman escaped from the car, several brave pedestrians pulled the man from the car and pinned him down until police arrived.

The female victim suffered a minor bite to her arm and has been treated at the scene by paramedics.

Dustin Edward MacDonald is being held in custody.
