Love and Sex
Love makes sex better for most women, researcher says
Love and commitment makes sex better for women, according to a small U.S. study.
Penn State Abington sociologist Beth Montemurro interviewed 95 women in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York and found that regardless of age or background, most said love was necessary for sexual satisfaction and that love made sex more physically pleasurable.
That may be because the women who said they love their partners were also more likely to feel less inhibited in the bedroom and more comfortable exploring their sexuality.
"When women feel love, they may feel greater sexual agency because they not only trust their partners but because they feel that it is OK to have sex when love is present," Montemurro said.
Or it could have to do with how women are socialized and how the media represents women's sexuality, she said.
"Movies and television, especially, tend to portray women who are having sex outside of relationships negatively."
