A Coquitlam school district teacher resigned earlier this year after officials alleged a disturbing pattern of behaviour involving children, according to a decision from the British Columbia Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.
In January, Kevin Buffel was found with a girl from his Grade 2-3 class sitting on his lap in a darkened classroom while watching a movie, the written decision said, and the incident came in the wake of multiple warnings to halt all unnecessary physical contact with students.
Upon investigation, Buffel admitted he had ignored those warnings and often allowed girls to sit in his lap, the decision said.
It was also revealed the teacher had used a school computer to view websites with graphic pictures of human anatomy and videos with inappropriate relationships between adults and children, including incest, the decision said, and some of the websites were accessed while Buffel was teaching students in the computer lab.
Buffel was suspended without pay in January and resigned in May. He has since signed an undertaking not to teach.
