Three teens are in custody in a case Vancouver police are calling bizarre.

A woman living near 24th Avenue and St. Catherines Street called VPD Tuesday after noticing her gas tank was empty and her car had moved slightly from where she parked overnight. The same Toyota was recovered after being stolen in May, according to Cons. Sandra Glendinning.

When police came to investigate they noticed someone getting into the car, and made the arrests. Turns out the keys were never retrieved from the first crime, and the same person who stole the car in May had been using it for several nights.

“Sometimes you can’t make this stuff up,” says Glendinning, adding they don’t know what the teens were doing with the car while they “borrowed” it at night.
