Vancouver Whitecaps FC kick off the Major League Soccer season on Sunday against Canadian rival Montreal Impact FC. It is one of THE matches to attend in 2016.

Of course, there are the usual must-see matches, like Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC and Portland Timbers FC, or the LA Galaxy and all their big-name players.

Here are some other matches you definitely don’t want to miss:

FC Dallas – April 23 – The Whitecaps were beat to the top of the Western Conference last year by FC Dallas. While they may not have the glamour of LA’s big names or the cachet of the Cascadia rivals, FC Dallas is on top to be one of the best teams in MLS once again and who wouldn’t like to see Blas Perez score the game winning goal against his old club – something he seemingly did nonstop against the Whitecaps in previous years.

Ottawa Fury or FC Edmonton – June 8 – It might not be an MLS match-up, but it’s a key match for Whitecaps FC to reclaim the Voyageurs Cup. After winning the Canadian Championship for the first time in 2015, Vancouver will definitely want to defend the trophy in front of their home fans. It’s also a perfect opportunity to see some of the ‘Caps’ bright lights and Canadians play at BC Place in front of a large crowd for a Canadian trophy.

New England Revolution – June 18 – Gershon Koffie’s return to BC Place for the first time since being traded away. Will we see the player that could dominate a game and get revenge on the ‘Caps or the inconsistent player we saw most nights? Also, just a chance to say goodbye to a long serving ‘Caps player.

Orlando City FC – July 16 – Three simple reasons: Kaka, and Canadians Cyle Larin and Richie Laryea.

Portland Timbers FC – Oct. 23 – I know I wrote seeing Portland was an easy choice, but ending the season against your expansion cousins and the team that won the MLS Cup last year after knocking you out the playoffs makes this one even more special. Could it be the opportunity to claim the Supporter’s Shield for best team in MLS, claim a playoff spot or knock Portland out of the playoffs? All the reason to get tickets to this one early!
