Women should breastfeed children until they are 8, says advocate
A British mother is advocating that mothers should breastfeed their children until they are eight -- at the least.
Sophie Emma Rose, 40, currently feeds her four-year-old son Shaye on demand -- and shares a bed with the lad.
Now, she wants everyone to breastfeed their children until they’re ready to give it up. She has received more than 8 million views on her YouTube channel, where she shares videos of herself breastfeeding to try to normalize the practice.
"Breastfeeding older children is so important."
"As well as the nutritional value of breast milk, you also let your child know in a very physical way that you are there for them,” Rose told the Daily Mirror. “It's about the comfort and emotional connection.”
However, she doesn’t expect to be feeding her son when he’s 18 and knows that eventually it will end.
She claims she’s particularly devoted to “attachment parenting” because of her own upbringing.
"As a child, I wasn't breastfed and was given my own room fairly early on,” she told the newspaper. “My parents did their best but they weren't aware of the things we're aware of now in psychology. I'll breastfeed Shaye for as long as he wants it - that is the goal.”
