A 25-year-old Vancouver man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a 2011 shooting death in Champlain Heights.

On July 25, 2011, Harpreet “Hapi” Sandhu, 21, was gunned down following an argument with a group of youths in the area of Arlington Street and Whitehorn Court in south Vancouver. He died in hospital.

Now, almost six years later, Vancouver Police Department detectives have made an arrest.

Heval Hishyar Tilli of Vancouver was apprehended Tuesday and later charged with second-degree murder.

“We are aware that there are other witnesses to this murder that have been afraid to come forward or to cooperate with the police investigation,” said Vancouver police Const. Jason Doucette. “Now that charges have been laid, we are again appealing to those people to have the courage to speak up and clear their conscience.”

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call VPD detectives at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
