Cops say Joseph Haggerty couldn’t help himself.
The 49-year-old St. Stephen, New Brunswick man was busted by Cleveland detectives when he flew to the Lake Erie city to have sex with a 17-year-old girl.
Haggerty allegedly had seduced the girl – who was apparently one of his online harem of underage girls – and she agreed to meet him.
But after he was busted, Haggerty is accused of calling the teen’s cell phone. The object of his desires told him she knew about the other girls.
He said cops were lying.
"I'm in jail right now with my future in jeopardy because I love you," the criminal complaint quotes Haggerty.
Investigators say Canadian cops found a treasure trove of sexually explicit images of the teen on his computer, earning him a child porn beef in the U.S.
Besides the raunchy photos of the Ohio victim, investigators also found a lifelike child sex doll and contact information for six other potential victims.
On his Twitter feed, among the eyebrow raisers Haggerty follows are a slew of what appears to be young girls, White Nationalist Defenders, Don Cherry, BBW porn star Eliza Allure, Girls Love Girls, the Rolling Stones and Rush.
According to cops, Haggerty planned to hook up with the teen and then venture to a Days Inn in the Cleveland area for sex.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer said the age of consent in Ohio is 16-years-old but federal law makes it illegal to possess or share explicit images of anyone under 18.
Haggerty is charged with production of child pornography. His lawyer had no comment for the newspaper.
Prosecutors said that Haggerty was also chatting online with another underage girl in Texas and asked the teen to send him sexually explicit photos.
The girl told detectives that she met Haggerty on the chat app Kik in December.
However, she said he had become controlling and more demanding in his request for sexual acts online.
