Kim Kardashian has found herself at the centre of controversy once again, after being accused of having her skin digitally darkened to match daughter North’s for a recent photoshoot.

The reality star, who has Armenian heritage, is mother to four-year-old North and son Saint, who will turn two in December, with her African American husband Kanye West.

Kim and North joined forces for the latest issue of Interview magazine, which saw the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star channelling late U.S. First Lady Jackie “O” Kennedy Onassis. The images were shot in a makeshift Oval Office, with Kim donning the smart skirt suits and bouffant hair Jackie made famous.

Alongside the cover shot, which showed Kim sitting with North in a smart navy dress with a white lace collar, a tagline reads: “America’s new first lady”.

However, while some praised Kim for the pictures, others took to social media to speculate as to whether she had had her skin darkened to match North’s.

“Instead of using this as an avenue to show that we are racially diverse but still one, they darkened Kim’s complexion to match her daughter,” one Twitter user wrote, while another added, “Jackie O turning over in her damn grave right now.”

Kim was also interviewed by transgender rights activist Janet Mock for the magazine, who asked the mother-of-two how she felt about raising a biracial daughter in today’s society.

“I’m very conscious of it,” Kim replied. “Kanye always has his family around and people who look like my daughter - that’s important to me. She’s obsessed with her curly hair, and if she finds someone who has the same hair, she runs to them and is like, ‘You have curly hair like me?’ And we get to talk about it.

“We also talk about it with my niece Penelope (Kourtney Kardashian’s five-year-old daughter), because she and North look really different, but they’re best friends and they’re together all the time.”
