When a cannibal turned himself in to cops moaning he was tired of eating human flesh they did not believe his macabre tale.

But the maniacal medicine man was telling the truth.

His name is “Mkhonyovu,” which means “the corrupt one” in Zulu and he told his clients human flesh would give them superpowers.

Now, BBC News reports that a twisted cabal of flesh-eaters preyed upon residents in a tiny village in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province.

The terrified villagers learned the terrible truth when the decapitated remains of missing woman Zanele Hlatshwayo, 25, were discovered.

“We can only imagine how she begged for her life, she died an extremely painful death,” her sobbing elder sister Nozipho Ntelele told BBC News.

“Her clothes were covered in grass and dust, which is a clear indication that she had been in a struggle to save her life.”

Now, five men have been arrested.

Hlatshwayo vanished in July.

But when the “not human flesh again” cannibal brought them a bloody hand, cops changed their tune.

In a cooking pot in his home, detectives discovered eight human ears that they believed were sold to the man’s customers who were told they were magic.

Other body parts were found in a suitcase along with the victim’s torn and tattered clothes.

Neighbours complained for years about the smell of rotting meat.

The five suspects were greeted by public protests outside the courtroom and abandoned their bail request.

They’re back in court towards the end of September suspected of scores of cannibal killings.
