Three killed in head-on collision near Grand Forks

Three people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision Tuesday on Highway 3 near Grand Forks.

Grand Forks RCMP say a westbound 2012 Hyundai Tucson with three occupants crossed the centre line and collided head-on with an eastbound 1996 Ford pick-up truck with two occupants.

The two-vehicle accident occurred at around 3 p.m..

The 37-year-old female driver of the Hyundai and the 40-year-old male driver of the Ford truck along with a 37-year-old woman in the Hyundai were pronounced dead at the scene. The two survivors were airlifted to hospital and were listed in critical condition.

Police says the occupants from the SUV were all from Castlegar, while the truck occupants were from Genelle.

No names have been released.

RCMP West Kootenay traffic services and B.C. Coroner Services are investigating.
