In ABC's new show, The Mayor, Lea Michele returns in fine Rachel Berry form, looking to help Fort Grey, California's newly elected mayor, rapper Courtney Rose (Brandon Micheal Hall), who only ran to garner publicity for his new album.

With comments about Russians tampering with voting machines and Courtney pondering how one can undo a political win, it would be easy for The Mayor to be overrun by political jokes. Instead, it's doing viewers a solid as Courtney accepts his fate and tries to manage both.

"His rap career is taking off, but he also has the responsibility of being mayor of this city," Hall said during Bell's upfront presentation. "It's going to be fun and pretty cool to see."

But it's also going to be a lot of work for a guy who didn't know what he was getting into and is having second thoughts, but is also torn between his dreams and his town. Enter Courtney's former classmate-turned-chief of staff Valentina (Michele), who is just as much of an ambitious know-it-all as her Glee character, only much more likable.

"Rachel would murder someone (to get something done)," Michele stated matter-of-factly.

Michele added that "getting to go to work with my girlfriends" on Scream Queens was a blast but she's relishing this new boys' club.

"They're like the brothers I never had," she gushed. "It's a totally different environment for me, but I think that's what really got me very excited about this project."

She continued: "If we have a 30-second break, they'll go into a full musical number for me," adding that she's leaving all the music to Hall.

"I'm smiling from ear to ear (on set)" added Michele. "This is God gracing me with the most handsome, talented boys that I just get to sit and watch all day long. I mean, I'm not complaining."

Hall blushed at being called "handsome" and "talented," before regaining his composure.

"That's my girl. I love her."

Ooh, watch out, Will and Grace (and Jack and Karen, for that matter). You've got some competition.

The Mayor airs on CTV Saturdays at 8:30 p.m.
