Blackberry problems? Upgrade: RIM
TECHNOLOGY

Research in Motion is urging Blackberry customers to upgrade their software to avoid glitches that have caused problems with e-mail services for the second time in a week.

Blogs were flooded with complaints on Tuesday evening after Blackberry users began to experience e-mail delays. The problems hit customers in both North and South America. RIM said phone and SMS services were not affected.

RIM said in an e-mailed statement that the problem is under review to find the root cause.

However, it appears to stem from a flaw in two recently released versions of Blackberry Messenger (5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56) that caused a database issue within the Blackberry infrastructure.

The company has provided a new version of the Messenger, 5.0.0.57, and says anyone who has downloaded or upgraded their service since December 14th should upgrade to the new version, which resolves the issue.
