Delish night of drinking 0

SARAH ROWLAND

Sometimes Girls' Night Out consists of nothing more than great food, tasty martinis and some good ole fashioned girl talk (a.k.a. cock-tales).

Not this time though. We went all out at LUX Restaurant & Bar (965 Granville St.). In fact, we closed the joint down.

Consequently, as I write this very article, I'm fighting the mother of all hangovers. In between popping Advil, I'm texting Steph every time I get a flashback from the night before - nothing too cringeworthy, but still....

The evening started out innocent enough (always the way). A glass of wine here. A sexual innuendo joke there. You know, the 'uje'.

But somewhere in between our tasty appetizers and our main course, my shut-off valve conked out (really, gotta get that thing checked out). As a result, I went way past my limit.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I was dancing on tables or anything - I would never do that anyway (that's sooo 2009). But I did find myself drinking shooters. Multiple shooters!

You'd think that of all people, a woman who manned a shooter bar for several years would know the dangers of slamming back Broken Down Golf Carts - or whatever sugary sweet shooters the kids are drinking these days (sorry, did I just date myself?).

Anyway, the thing with Lux is the food is so fun, flirty, tasty and light that you don't get that kind of gross full that makes you wanna go home and put your jammies on.

We snacked on the cutest little mini burgers, crab lollypops and some spicy ahi tuna before sharing the insanely good halibut plate. Suffice to say, everything was delicious.

Then, we topped the whole thing off with a Liquid Dark Chocolate Fondu dessert (and yes, it was as good as it sounds).

But (and I'm not gonna mention any names here), one of us was double-dipping (which, as we all know, is a big-time fon-don't).

Oh well, par for the course, I guess.

Now this is when we would normally call it a night. But rather than asking for the bill, something compelled us to order another round and work the room instead.

It probably had a lot to do with the venue itself. The modern, chic set-up is intimate enough for a private dinner, but it's also open enough to move around and mingle. And you don't get the usual Granville Street party pigs in there either. It's classy, but not pretentious. And ladies, the male-female ratio is definitely in our favour (at least it was last Wednesday).

Steph and I will definitely be making a return visit - but perhaps next time, we'll pace ourselves a little more.

No harm in trying, right?
