Local spokesperson speaks highly of Jackson
Vancouver's Stuart Backerman would have worked with Jacko in a secondBy DHARM MAKWANA, 24 HOURS
If Vancouver’s Stuart Backerman could work with Michael Jackson again he would do so in a New York minute. “I haven't spoken to Michael in a long time, but I know we could make magic again,” Backerman told mjportal.com in an August 2008 interview. Backerman, a Vancouver-based entertainment industry heavyweight, was hired by Jackson shortly before the scandalous Living With Michael Jackson documentary hit the airwaves. The explosive interview grabbed global headlines because the King of Pop confessed to sharing his bed with children during overnight slumber parties. Backerman was key in producing a second documentary of the process titled The Michael Jackson Interview: The Footage You Were Never Meant To See. Months later when Jackson’s Neverland Ranch was raided by police, Backerman was against thrust into the spotlight as the artist’s spokesperson during the media storm. He would tell media, “The outrageous allegations against Michael Jackson are false." Backerman would return to Vancouver and is currently listed at the executive vice-president communication for The Falls, a golf course in Chilliwack. He also maintains a blog and MySpace page devoted to helping the now-deceased Michael Jackson. His last post was an open letter to Jackson. “I was your official spokesman and worked for you for almost two years, doing the best job I could, believing that you had a gift to share with the world. When I resigned, I stated that I loved both you and your fans, who have over the years exhibited a truly amazing display of loyalty and devotion to you, both as a person and to the values that they believe you exemplify. Though that declaration might have seemed excessive at the time, it was uttered from the heart, since I believe we are all perfect in the eye’s of our Creator, an expression of that divine force that animates all life in the Universe.” |
