'Battle of Blades' renewed
By BILL HARRIS, Sun Media
No rust will form on these blades. CBC has confirmed its hit reality-competition series Battle of the Blades has been renewed for a second season. It will return next fall. The first season of Battle of the Blades wrapped up Monday, with ex-NHLer Craig Simpson and Olympic medallist Jamie Salé edging the team of Shae-Lynn Bourne and Claude Lemieux and the team of Marie-France Dubreuil and Stéphane Richer for the title. Approximately 1.73 million Canadians tuned into CBC for the finale. An average of 1.75 million watched the performance shows on Sundays, with an average of 1.33 million seeking out the results shows on Mondays. Battle of the Blades was staged in front of live audiences at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens. “We could not be happier with the audience and advertising response to this truly Canadian series,” said Kirstine Stewart, general manager of CBC Television, in a statement. Insight Productions is investigating the possibility of expanding the Battle of the Blades franchise globally. |
