Toronto R&B-soul singer Jully Black's new album may be called The Black Book but she's spray-painted in silver body paint from neck to waist on the disc's eye-catching cover.
Black explained she thought the provocative look indicated a change in sound on her new album, which has a poppy sounding first single in Running, but otherwise contains major rock influences on such tracks on Share My World, The Plan, I'll Rock It, Recalculate, Love U 4Ever and What Is This?
"I just thought it was conducive to the sound, like it's a new sound," said Black of her decision for the album art work.
"For me, it's kind of futuristic and where I'm coming from, so silver against the black skin and the new hair, I don't know, I just saw it in my head and I told my team and this is the result. I was just like, 'Guys, this is the last shot. It's 8:30 p.m. at night, we started at about 8 in the morning.' "
And despite being topless, she didn't feel vulnerable.
"I had shorts on but I felt so clothed once they sprayed the nipples. Who knew? I'm like a brand new exhibitionist. At home, it's just like Free Willy, or Free Wilma!" she said.
