The glamour, the fashion, the promise of pretty babies . In India, the high-profile glitz of celebrity weddings holds the same allure as anywhere else. Right now, the big question is exactly when Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor will tie the knot.

The event is being touted as the wedding of the year. When RJ1200 owner and broadcaster Shushma Datt sat down with Sharmila Tagore in July, she confirmed that her son, Khan, would wed Kapoor sometime later this year.

Mom has now told the Times of India the wedding will take place in October, although the exact date remains hush-hush. "D-day is in October, sometime," Tagore said. "I am not at a liberty to disclose the date. You'd have to ask Saif."

Like so many celebrities overwrought by public adoration, Kapoor and Khan have indicated the affair will be small and private. But they've also dropped a few juicy tidbits to ensure the media keeps interested and keeps watching.

Kapoor recently announced she would wear the sharara (Indian women's costume) worn by her famous mother-in-law when she married Mansoor Ali Khan in 1969. However, there will be a few alterations to modernize and personalize the outfit.

Praised as one of India's most versatile actors, Kapoor is the granddaughter of silver screen legend Raj Kapoor. She made her debut at 20 in the 2000 film Refugee and gained critical acclaim four years later for her role as a prostitute in Chameli. Today, Kapoor is one of India's highest paid female actors, demanding up to $2 million a role.

Khan is descended from royalty and holds the title of Nawab of Pataudi, a lineage of princely rulers from Pataudi state. He began acting in 1992, and his biggest commercial successes include Salaam Namaste and Race. In 2009, he branched out into film production with his company Illuminati Films.

Rumors are circulating the wedding will take place Oct. 16, but neither party has commented. Tagore, however, did confirm that the nuptials would be held in Mumbai and Delhi as opposed to Pataudi for security reasons.
