Best & worst video game movies

Bruce Kirkland, QMI Agency

Conjuring movies from video games usually leads to arcane characters, asinine plots and insane dialogue. Some flicks survive the madness as good entertainment, although most don't. Here is The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of the genre:

Resident Evil (2002) and Retribution (2012) for Milla Jovovich in leather & latex.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) for Angelina Jolie being enhanced, hot and dangerous.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010) for silly but fun comedy-adventure.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001) for quality CGI.

Silent Hill (2006) for visual imagination, even if plot is incomprehensible.

"Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) for almost killing the franchise.

Street Fighter (1994) for Jean-Claude Van Damme's clumsy pretensions.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) for prolonging the agony.

Doom (2005) for dumbing down The Rock.

DOA: Dead or Alive (2006) for making even bodacious babes insufferable.

"Super Mario Bros. (1993) for kick-starting this genre in cloud of toxic gas.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997) for being even more egregious than the 1995 original.

House of the Dead (2003) for letting Uwe Boll direct.

Bloodrayne (2006) for letting Uwe Boll direct.

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007) for letting Uwe Boll direct ... again.
