Sexually charged atmosphere: Ex-writer

By 24 HOURS NEWS

A former Letterman writer claims the atmosphere on Dave Letterman's show was "hostile" and "sexually charged" and that sexual politics played a role in why she eventually left the position, says tmz.com.

Nell Scovell, the writer making the claim, spent roughly five months working for Letterman in 1990.

In an article written for Vanity Fair magazine, Scovell claims during her employment, she was well aware that Letterman and other high-level male employees were having sexual relations with female staffers.

Scovell also claims those female staffers were "benefiting professionally from their personal relationships."

She adds, "Did that make me feel demeaned? Completely. Did I say anything at the time? Sadly, no."

In the article, Scovell claimed she's not looking to take any legal action against Dave or the show -- and she does not identify any of the alleged staffers involved with Letterman by name.

She wrote in the magazine: "Let's address the pertinent questions ... Did Dave hit on me? No. Did he pay me enough extra attention that it was noted by another writer? Yes. Was I aware of rumours that Dave was having sexual relationships with female staffers? Yes."
