A new report by Vanity Fair says auditions were held by Scientology officials to help find Tom Cruise a girlfriend in 2004.
The story appears in Vanity Fair’s October issue with a photo of Katie Holmes on the cover and claims Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology chief David Miscavige headed up a mission to find Cruise a new mate who would also be agreeable to the church.
The famous Scientologist had recently split from actress Penelope Cruz.
It is reported that actresses who were already Scientology members were invited to audition for a new training film and were asked a number of questions, which included their thoughts on the 'Missions Impossible' actor.
Ultimately, London-based actress Nazanin Boniadi was chosen. She was reportedly told she was choseon for a ‘very important mission’ and underwent a series of interviews before meeting Cruise in November 2004. The pair reportedly dated until January 2005. Their first date was accompanied by other Scientology members and Boniadi was required to sign a number of confidentiality agreements.
The relationship fell apart, however because anything seen as a fault by Cruise was reported to Scientology staff. She was also said to have offended Miscavige, and therefore Cruise while once entertaining the Scientology leader and his wife.
