DOA back in action
By 24 HOURS
DOA plays the Commodore tonight to release its 30th anniversary Men of Action DVD. 24 hours interviewed Joe Keithley in DOA's famous "tour bus." 24: Talk about the history of the fantastic milk truck. MC: It's managed to run 21 years, about 750,000 miles, it's had four engines, three transmissions, three different rear ends and the muffler's been repaired 75 or 76 times... it saves a helluva lot of dough, a bus is five grand a week, plus driver, plus diesel. 24: It's been 30 years, but did you ever think you could make this a life? MC: I went to SFU and thought I was going to be a civil rights lawyer. Boy, I ended up in a different occupation. Some of the same applications, I've tried to help people get some justice. 24: The latest album, Northern Avenger, contains Police Brutality. Very timely. MC: Police are there to protect and serve, not to abuse... the officers involved at the Dziekanski incident should be fired. 24: DOA is a symbol of DIY. MC: It's pretty easy to make an album. Before we recorded the first album we played 400 shows and probably rehearsed the songs 1,000 times each. |
