The world’s biggest celebration of women in music is returning to Vancouver after a 10-year hiatus.
Vancouver was included on the first round of cities announced yesterday for the new Lilith Fair, a female-only mega tour founded by Vancouver’s own Sarah McLachlan in 1996.
The tour, which ended in 1999, was one of the highest grossing touring festivals of all time and raised more than $10 million for national and local charities.
Terry McBride, the fair’s cofounder and CEO of Nettwerk Music Group, announced the first 18 cities planned for the revived international show.
Vancouver joins a list of worldclass cities including Chicago, New York and London. Toronto, Calgary and Montreal were also announced.
No dates or venues have been set and organizers have yet to release a list of performers.
The 1997-1999 tour included in the likes of McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Christina Aguilera, Erykah Badu, Missy Elliot and the Dixie Chicks.
The last Lilith Fair gig in Vancouver was July 8, 1999 at Thunderbird Stadium.
