Tiesto spins into town
By KRISTEN MCKENZIE
Fans of electronica and trance rejoice! Tiesto, arguably the best DJ in the world, is pulsating his way into Vancouver this weekend. The Dutch music maker is stopping by as part of an international tour to promote his fourth and most recent album, Kaleidoscope. Released just last month, the album features collaborations with several renowned Canadians, including Emily Haines from Metric, Tegan and Sara, and B.C.'s own Nelly Furtado. Just what makes many consider Tiesto the cream of the DJ crop? For starters, the Grammy nominee was proclaimed the world's top DJ a staggering three consecutive times by DJ Magazine. He secured the coveted title of resident DJ at Privilege in Ibiza, the largest club in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records (capacity 10,000), from July to September 2008. He also performed live on stage at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, the first time any DJ had ever done so. But perhaps the most convincing evidence of Tiesto's DJ distinction is found within the various You Tube clips showing hundreds of thousands of revelers across the globe rocking out to his pulsating tunes. Comments on these Facebook clips yield responses such as "Tiesto is God" and "Tiesto 4ever!" Vancouverites will get to decide for themselves whether Tiesto truly is the greatest DJ on Saturday night at the Pacific Coliseum. Tickets are currently available through Ticketmaster. - Spin it! Not sure if you're a Tiesto fan yet? Before splurging on concert tickets, check him out in action for free at his in-store appearance at the downtown HMV (788 Burrard St.) on Saturday eveningz. Tiesto will both perform and sign autographs between 5 and 7 p.m. |
