Covering music festivals always makes me feel a tad old, what with the wisps of grey creeping in amongst my natural brown hair.
But, salt and pepper aside, the inaugural Pemberton Music Festival – B.C.’s biggest music festival ever – will feature about 40,000 fans of all seasons.
And, hey, Tom Petty will be there, so at 38 years old, I’ll be far from the oldest dude at the dance.
Still, this weekend is a marathon, not a sprint, so it’s important for everyone to set a reasonable pace. That includes planning your weekend in advance. Make sure to bring clothing options if the weather turns sour, and drink plenty of water, especially if your consuming alcohol and the sun is shining.
Remember – be safe, not sorry. And have fun!
Weekend coverage
Graeme McRanor, Mark Goodwin and Mark Yuen will be at festival from start to finish. They will be continuously posting blogs, photos, video, and reviews all weekend long at vancouver.24hrs.ca/pemfest. We’ll also have a photo package and festival wrap in Monday’s edition of 24 hours.
Alternate transportation
Remember, the Sea to Sky highway isn’t the only way to get to this weekend’s festivities. The Whistler Mountaineer (www.whistlermountaineer.com), a scenic three-hour journey free of traffic and construction delays, operates daily out of North Vancouver (departs at 8:30 a.m.) and Whistler (departs at 3:00 p.m.), with a coach transfer from Vancouver to North Vancouver station leaving at 7:15 a.m.-7:45 a.m. daily from various hotels. A shuttle will transfer concertgoers from Whistler to the Pemberton site.
