The long, long road north

Shout it out for a nightcap Exit from chaos Interpol arrests audience

By GRAEME MCRANOR, 24 HOURS

3:30 p.m. - The long, long road to Pemberton Festival began at my place in Gastown this morning at just after 9 a.m. Now, here we are, five and half hours later, on site, slightly dehydrated but nothing a tasty Mojito or two can't fix.

Things were going relatively smoothly until just past Whistler - that's when traffic snarled and we were caught in what has to be the most widely predicted parking melee in B.C. history.

Multimedia editor Mark Yuen and myself checked into the media accreditation centre - which we almost missed due to negligence - and we were subsequently pointed in the general direction of media parking.

I say general direction because we got lost, and it's easier to blame the person who vaguely pointed down the road, rather than Mark's navigation skills, which to be perfectly honest are equally suspect.

Media parking! We caught the shuttle with our gear with some intoxicated V.I.P.'s and finally stepped into the bustling performance area. Throngs of festivalgoers, miles of tents and a constant cacophony of music assaulting the ears from every direction.

We decided hydration was paramount and headed straight for the Bacardi Media Tent, a welcome oasis in this dry dusty bowl featuring the aforementioned Mojitos and, more importantly, air conditioned bathrooms. Oh, sweet Pemberton Festival, what do you have in store for us?

Stay tuned...
