The latest fashion footwear trend may find you giving your shoes the boot.
It's no time for the timid, as over-the-knee and thigh-high hardware-adorned models threaten to kick shoes off stride as the footwear of choice.
"Flat-soled versions are edgier by day and pair well with tunic tops and sweater dresses, tights and leggings," says Julia Brownstein, a Montreal-based spokesperson for Browns shoe stores. "High-heeled versions create a sexier vibe and are a great way to dress up your look at night."
Leather and faux leather boots offer a smooth and lustrous finish, while patent offers full-on shine. Vintage-looking and man-made leathers showcase a variety of finishes from oiled to tumbled.
"Distressed and washed leathers are extremely fashionable, especially on more casual boots, while suede often helps to create a dressier look," says Emmie Shapiro, a spokesperson for the Little Burgundy shoe store chain.
Studs, zippers, chains, buckles, grommets and harness rings adorn boot shafts and wrapping around the ankles. Large metal domes, covered buttons and laces are other embellishments.
Black is a favourite colour but other fashion shades include grey, dark purple, red and cobalt blue, as well as natural browns and earth tones.
Almond toe shapes dominate and pointy-toed shoes are making a comeback.
"We're seeing a lot of glamorous, '80s-inspired, pointed toes once again," says Brownstein.
