Lucian Matis strutted out a spring-summer 2010 collection fit for a fairy goth-mother.
The Romanian born-designer's collection featured layers of different textured fabric, some figure hugging, others draping, dripped with studs, crystals and thick rope-like snaking chains or ribbons. All that glittered was not gold, but silver and gold mixed together, at the final day of LG Fashion Week in Toronto.
Under a glitter ball, the collection was dazzling.
Greys, creams, pale yellows pinks and purples continued the neutral palette theme that's been prevalent throughout the shows.
Playing off the decadent gowns, models sported constricting strapped headgear embellished with studs and jewels.
At the base layer, many dresses were tightly fitted, softened with contrasting generous layers overtop. If one was asymmetrical, the next was not. Keyholes in the front or back exposed further layers.
Often fabric seemed to barely cling to the body. It was secured either by delicate ribbon strapping or tough chains draping from shoulder to hip.
The fullness was at the hips or in the front, in toga-like Grecian gowns. A deep V-back was held together with a thick back strap. The finale dress, a grey feathery and silk number worn by retired supermodel Monika Schnarre, will be auctioned off for charity.
It featured all the best of the collection: A jewel-studded collar, sari-like treatment of different fabrics, studded bodice and exposed zip.
