On a set decorated with giant cakes, one of Canada's most creative designers scooped out a delicious collection Friday night.
Pat McDonagh dished out four different sets of concoctions on the themes of dark chocolate, sugar babies, bright choices and all things bright and beautiful at the second-last show of LG Fashion Week.
The designer known for bedecking celebs and rock stars since the 1960s was inspired by a partnership with Baskin-Robbins for her spring-summer 2010 collection.
"I loved it," said singer Sylvia Tyson, after spying the "tangerine dream" featuring orange ripples down the front and a low back and "oranges & lemons" featuring printed feathers.
Tyson said she has been wearing the designer since her early days.
The collection started dark -- with chocolate linens and metallic voiles.
A cone-shaped lapeled pantsuit, and sheer trench over a t-front one-piece swimsuit wowed the crowd. Cones also featured prominently as pockets and as on cheeky strapless dress with the bodice highlighted with two round scoops at the breasts.
Next, McDonagh rolled out embroidered cotton sateens, trimmed with fake cherries at the bodice or shoulders.
The fun outfits included those named "cream puff", "cherry poppins" and "strawberry field" featuring ruffles, embroidered flowers and puffed sleeves.
The runway then brightened up with multicoloured cotton seersuckers and printed jerseys. Carnaby Steet was a square-necked pleated dual-toned dress while Brighton Beach a bikini with hoodie a popular feature during fashion week.
The final numbers were a medley of brocades, sequins, laces, chiffons and organza.
Standouts were the origami-sleeved brocade bubble dress and a strapless pink ombre gown which featured a large two-toned pink and raspberry bow at the waist which rippled when the model walked.
All in all, very yummy.
