Creativity comes from all parts of the country, as well as the silver screen, when Winnipeg native Rachel Mara brings her vision for next spring and summer to life on the runway on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
"My collection was inspired by high-styled classic film heroines, including Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde, Chinatown and The Thomas Crown Affair, and Grace Kelly in Rear Window and To Catch a Thief," says designer Rachel Mara.
According to Mara, her spring-summer collection will feature lots of tailored clean lines and will include narrow pants with menswear pleating, skirts and dresses with longer lengths, skort-like shorts and flowing blouses and tops that often show off the décolletage.
Mara's palette is warm and summery, ranging in intensity to include both muted and bold shades.
Prints will include soft coral, peach, ivory and grey, and stripes will have special importance.
"I love stripes, so there are navy and white nautical stripes and knitwear in tri-colour pinks and grey stripes," says Mara.
Show-goers will also be treated to a short film premiere at Mara's show.
