Star-inspired cocktails in time for TIFF

Rita DeMontis, National Food Editor, QMI AGENCY

Calling on all classic cocktails - we're celebrating the Toronto International Film Festival. And everyone's up for some exciting liquid refreshment.

Just recently SKYY Vodka went stargazing and came up with a selection of TIFF-inspired cocktails that play homage to some of the biggest A-listers visiting Toronto.

The beauty of these drinks? They sparkle just as well with or without the alcohol.

If you're throwing your own TIFF event or starting to plan your holiday events, SKYY party planners recommend you provide two to three hot and three to four cold hors d'oeuvres per guest. Always have a little more food than you think you need -- the leftovers can feed you the next day. Cold cocktail party fare can include dips, fresh vegetable crudites, lots of fresh fruit, cheese and cracks, olives, edamame and nuts.

And keep your hot dishes small and easy to handle - simple bruschetta, bite-size quiches, stuffed mushrooms and spanakopitas.

No matter how simple or grand the event, the idea is to prepare ahead of time, and enjoy the company, especially if the company's coming off your own red carpet.

Cheers everyone!
