Q: I read a lot about H1N1 and how it is going to possibly be a bad flu season. Are there ways that I can take a special precaution with natural remedies without having to get the flu shot?
A: H1N1 strain of influenza appears to be the main virus so far this season. It was predominant in the southern hemisphere for their winter and is believed to do the same this year. I advise my patients to follow the same regimen as any other year for their naturopathic flu prophylaxis. Taking antiviral homeopathic remedies weekly has proved to be very effective over the years. I recommend taking Thymuline 9CH, one single dose tube per week, as well as a dose of Guna-Citomix twice a week. This will assist your immune system to give you more protection. It goes without saying that at the first onset of flu symptoms such as achy muscles, headache and fever a more radical approach must be taken. Most of my patients know to take extra Vitamin C in the winter and wash their hands frequently. Those patients who want some extra protection occasionally come in for vitamin/mineral shots or a short intravenous infusion of vitamins, minerals and Vitamin C.
