Electronic Arts' Vancouver-based studio Black Box has laid off the majority of its staff, according to reports posted online Thursday.
Game-maker industry website Gamasutra.com reported that upwards of 200 of the 350-plus employees at Black Box were let go, citing multiple development sources. Other employees, it added, were offered the chance to move elsewhere within the company.
Last month, the games giant said it would move Black Box's teams and projects to its Burnaby studio. The changes are part of efforts by the company to reduce global staff by about 10 per cent.
Black Box, which was acquired by EA in 2002, released Skate 2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this week.
