Arbitrator to settle HandyDART labour dispute

By 24 HOURS NEWS SERVICES

HandyDART services are scheduled to resume Jan. 11 now that MVT Canadian Bus and local 1724 of the Amalgamated Transit Union have agreed to binding arbitration.

Arbitrator Vince Ready will accept submissions from MVT and ATU the week of Jan. 4 with a final decision on a new contract expected the following week.

Those looking to make reservations for HandyDART, a bus service for people unable to use public transit, can do so starting Jan. 4.

“Forging a first labour contract from the seven different agreements that were in place under the previous operating system is a critical milepost in HandyDART’s transformation – a process that must succeed if it is to meet the future demands of our population,” TransLink CEO Ian Jarvis said in a media release.
