Eleven years in and the Cinderella Project never ceases to amaze.
The tears streaming down Kim Heinrich’s face were testament as she watched her daughter, Amanda, transformed from average teen to princess at the Renaissance Hotel Sunday.
“When she was little, she used to play dress-up and imagine days like this,” said Heinrich as Amanda was fitted into an elegant blue evening gown. “Today, it’s for real. I’m incredibly proud of her.”
Amanda was one of 150 teens invited to be a part of this year’s project, which gives underprivileged students access to free grad dresses and suits, shoes, make-up and anything else they need to make grad night a dream come true.
“These are students who, on their own, wouldn’t be able to go to their grad,” said Burnaby South teacher Pat Ponti, one of the project’s
directors. “Despite all of the hardship, they’re going to graduation. So for all the students here, being able to walk across the stage is like owning the podium. Their determination and work ethic is no different than our Olympic athletes.”
