It takes one to know one.
Or so a group of students from SFU think as they take to the streets Saturday to relate to the homeless experience that plagues thousands in Vancouver.
With nothing more than a pillow and blanket, marketing student Garett Senez and his classmates will expose themselves to the elements in an effort to raise awareness and money for the homeless.
The students will huddle in rain and maybe even snow through their 24-hour exercise outside Vancouver's Library Square starting 8 a.m. Saturday.
"We'll be sleeping in the street to try to get youth off the streets," Senez said.
Money raised will go to Covenant House, which helps homeless youth.
Senez said the experience won't come close to actually being homeless, but he hopes the sight of dozens of students laying in the street will help drive home the point.
"We wanted to do something that would be memorable," he said. "One of the most important things to something like this is to raise awareness. A lot of people are going to see this."
The SFU Student Marketing Association has also set up a website, www.nohome.ca, for people who want to donate online or for those seeking more information.
