Van Opera stages fashionable charity

By STEFANIA SECCIA, 24 HOURS

Who said philanthropy wasn't fashionable?

If you've been looking to buy a Michael Kors, Salvatore Ferragamo or Versace handbag then look no further than Vancouver Opera's (VO) second annual designer bag auction and luncheon.

"There's also a previously loved, gently used silent auction of designer bags," said VO's Caroline Hay.

The auction will feature local designer bags from Sienna Ray & Co., Ora Recycled Leather Handbags and Erin Templeton.

The luncheon takes place Thursday, April 2 at the Goldfish Pacific Kitchen in Yaletown. Tickets are $250 and guests receive a $125 tax receipt.

CTV's Tamara Taggart will host the event, which takes place at 11:30 a.m.

The event will finance Jack Pine, a new opera commissioned by the VO to help children learn the language of trees. It will tour 140 elementary schools throughout Metro Vancouver in April.
