Common sense doesn't appear to be affecting people's behaviour towards staying safe, according a public awareness campaign launching today.
According to the Community Against Preventable Injuries, more than 400,000 British Columbians suffer such fates as falling off a ladder or being in a car crash every year.
To turn the tide, the group is launching a multimedia campaign through the summer to keep people out of harm's way.
"We ask people, 'Hey, why don't you think about this?' You're probably not expecting it to happen to you but it could," said Ian Pike, a director at BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit.
All the campaign asks is people know the risks.
"We're not trying to bubble wrap the community and we're not trying to get people to stop engaging in healthy physical activity that has some risk of skinning a knee."
