A supporter of convict Leonard Peltier stood outside the U.S. Consulate in downtown Vancouver yesterday and demanded the federal government release all documents relevant to a pending bail hearing.
Peltier was extradited in 1976 from Burnaby's Oakalla Detention Centre to South Dakota where he was tried and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for the murder of two federal agents in a shootout at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
Supporters have claimed witnesses were coerced into testifying against Peltier.
"Sadly, out two governments have contained thousands of pages of files in both countries so we don't know what when on in Canada that caused Leonard to be extradited," said supporter Larry Wartels.
Peltier's bail hearing is scheduled for this morning.
