The biggest job search of the 2010 Winter Olympics is on.
Contemporary Security Canada has opened a 333 Terminal Avenue office to recruit 5,000 screeners, x-ray operators, communications operators, supervisors and managers for the airport-style security checkpoints at Games venues. Applications are also accepted at HireMe2010.com.
Jobs are for three weeks to three months and pay $16 to $30 an hour plus a $2.50 per hour "job completion bonus." Applicants must pass a criminal record check and temporary security licence. Minimum age is 19 as of Nov. 1.
Contemporary client services director Todd Severson said work involves "Early mornings, late nights, sometimes very cold, long hours. It's all part of the effort you're willing to give for the Olympic Games."
Utah-based Contemporary partnered with Aeroguard of Toronto and United Protection Services of Edmonton for the April-announced, $97.419 million contract with the RCMP Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit. The RCMP estimated in 2007 that security screening labour would cost between $24.7 million and $46.16 million.
