VANOC held a test event of a different sort yesterday in the Fraser Valley when it paraded an unlit 2010 Winter Olympic torch from Hope to Abbotsford.
A convoy of vehicles wound its way through the area in a dress rehearsal for Feb. 7 when the torch returns for good en route to the Feb. 12 opening ceremony at B.C. Place Stadium. VANOC's torch relay department also did a dry run of its community celebration production in Chilliwack.
The lighting ceremony is Oct. 22 in Olympia, Greece. The flame reaches Victoria Oct. 30. It will travel 45,000 kilometres over 106 days around Canada, but the 12,000 runners will carry the flame for less than 4,000 kilometres.
