Who's buying the tix?

How many people are coming to the 2010 Winter Olympics and where are they coming from?

B.C.'s Olympics minister wants to know.

VANOC was supposed to conduct market research based on spectator ticket sales and provide the results to its partners for planning and marketing purposes.

"I've asked for that as well," said minister Mary McNeil. "I think they are in the process of putting that together."

McNeil said she's eager to see visitor forecasts because the province wants to "really get to know who they are so every hand we shake we can do in an appropriate way and you do that by knowing who your demographics are."

The pre-recession estimate based on previous Winter Games was 250,000. A quarter of visitors - about 62,500 - was expected from foreign countries.

VANOC marketing vice-president Caley Denton said ticket sales reports were provided to another VANOC division, but he said he hasn't seen the research.
