Vancouver police are warning the public to stay vigilant after a woman was attacked from behind and sexually assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A 24-year-old woman was walking at a park along Point Grey Road, between Alma and Highbury, when a suspect jumped her and punched her in the face “repeatedly” just after midnight.
A fight ensued and the attacker eventually managed to pull the victim into some nearby bushes.
“This is a particularly violent and disturbing assault,” said VPD spokesperson Const. Jana McGuinness. “It’s obviously very troubling. A crime of opportunity like this can occur anywhere and it happened here last night.”
Vancouver Police are now searching for a suspect described as a medium-skinned male in his 20s, 5’5" - 5'8" tall, with a medium build, clean-shaven and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, and jeans.
He was described as having concealed his face with a hankerchief and having a British accent.
