Migrants now in custody

By MATT KIELTYKA

Seventy-six apparent migrant workers are currently locked up in Vancouver after a vessel carrying them was seized by authorities off the coast of Vancouver Island Friday.

RCMP, Canadian Forces and Canadian Border Services Agency were all involved in the incident Friday, as a vessel named "Ocean Lady" arrived at Ogden Point, B.C.

An inspection of the ship turned up seventy-six people who allegedly intended to reach Canada.

CBSA director Rob Johnston told media yesterday that the migrant workers are now being held in a corrections facility in Vancouver.

They are being interviewed and the agency is examining their admissibility into the country under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Until the investigation is over, the CBA will not disclose the age of the detained migrants or where they're from.
