Creative juices ready to flow

By KRISTEN MCKENZIE

The old adage "great minds think alike" will have particular resonance at this Thursday's Creativemix conference.

The event at Yaletown's Roundhouse Community Arts Centre, brings unites 12 of the most innovative local thinkers to speak on the topic of creativity.

"Some people are calling it the creative uber-think tank," said Corwin Hiebert, Creativemix's founder. "There are so many people coming from so many different sectors. It's going to be a lot of fun."

Hiebert came up with the idea with his singer/ songwriter wife, Eileen Rothe.

"We like being around creative people," he said. "We thought, 'Let's do something where we can all get together.' There's so many creative people in Vancouver."

Hiebert thus composed a "hit list" of 12 locals he would be interested in hearing speak.

Nettwerk Music Group CEO Terry McBride's participation took Hiebert aback.

McBride, for his part, was happy to volunteer.

"[This conference] is awesome," he said. "Nothing has ever been done like that here."

Moreover, he considers his participation as a responsibility of sorts.

"I view this as helping," he said. "People have to give, they have to inspire."

Creativemix closes with a Think and Drink, allowing participants and speakers to mingle and discuss ideas. Registration is $159 or $129 for students.
